It’s seeing the unlikely friendships develop between two species. And dogs seem to be pretty awesome at making new friends. We’ve seen a dog and a dolphin, a dog and a duck and now, here’s a dog and rat duo.

Osiris and Riff the rat are quite the odd couple. But this 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd loves his 3-month-old best friend who is a rat.

Their unusual friendship began when Osiris’ parents rescued Riff when he was just 4 weeks old. The little baby rat had not even opened his eyes yet when they started nursing him back to health with a syringe.

Some people may not think that a dog and a rat could be friends, but Osiris and Riff are proving them wrong.

The two work well together because Osiris also knows a few things about being rescued. Osiris was abandoned in a parking lot when he was just a little puppy. His parents took him in as a foster dog but they loved him so much that they ended up keeping him.

This dog and rat duo are the most adorable friends.

Osiris is now a trained therapy dog and he has helped his family look after lots of different animals over the years.

At first, the family was worried that Osiris and Riff wouldn’t get on straight away. After all, Osiris is a huge dog and Riff is a tiny rat.

But it didn’t take them long to hit it off. They’re so close in fact that Osiris even lets Riff crawl in his mouth and clean his teeth for him!

Riff Ratt really likes licking the inside of Osiris’ mouth. I’m sure you all are wondering if we’re afraid Osiris will eat Riff – NOPE! Osiris has helped foster and care for dozens of animals and he is the gentlest dog I’ve ever met.

The adorable duo play together…

Explore together…

And cuddle together…

And though their different sizes can cause some issues…

It doesn’t change their love for each other.
