It was a horrifying sight for the family when Fluffy was found.

Frozen stiff and very close to death, the cat had run out of the house when the family was out. The freezing snow in Montana got to him last Thursday but what was worse was the injury he suffered that stopped him from getting back home. The coldness immediately attacked the poor creature, layering her with snow and ice as she froze out in the yard of the house.

By the time the family returned, Fluffy was unconscious and nearly frozen to death. She was immediately taken to the Animal Clinic of Kalispell. While hope for her survival was dim, her family never gave up. And their prayers seem to have been answered for Fluffy actually lived and even made a great recovery.

“They’ve always been great pet owners so they didn’t hesitate to bring her straight here,” Andrea Dutter, executive director of the clinic, said. “It was all hands on deck. We had both doctors here working to thaw the snow and ice off her with warm water, and they were also blow-drying her and rotating in warm towels from the dryer.”

When she was brought into the clinic, Fluffy had a heartbeat, but she was also too cold. So cold that her body temperature couldn’t even register on the thermometers. It was only after an hour of warming her that she was able to move.

What really happened to her is still unclear but from the marks on her skin, Dutter believes that she could have been mauled by another animal. Fortunately, the wounds won’t have long impacts on her.

“She was with us here for a few hours and then spent the night at an emergency animal hospital to be monitored,” Dutter said. “By the next morning, she was already doing well and walking.”

Her family has decided to decrease her outdoor time during the winter, after this harrowing incident. But when the summer comes, she’ll be out with her family once again.

“Her owners are new to the area and when they first bought their house, Fluffy was an outdoor cat already living there in the backyard,” Dutter explained. “She was established out there at that point, but after they started taking care of her she began living half indoors.”

But it will make you feel better to know that the indoors has been made friendly just for her sake. Right now, she’s being coddled and cared for her family with warmth and tons of treats! Watch more details of Fluffy’s story in the video below:
