A UPS delivery man was driving along his route in Missouri with a truckful of holiday packages to deliver. As he rushed along the rural roadway something caught his eye in the glistening snow. He thought something “moved” in the snow, so he pulled his truck over to check it out.
Suddenly, he saw something that seemingly blended in with the white snow. That something turned out to be a tiny 6-week-old blind and the deaf puppy that was cast aside like trash.
The kind driver warmed the puppy up and immediately drove her to a local shelter for help. The folks at Speak St. Louis took the little one in and posted an update to their Facebook page.
They wrote, “A 6-week-old blind and deaf puppy had been tossed out in the freezing weather, likely deemed worthless by whoever had her. But who doesn’t believe in Christmas miracles? He scooped up that tiny ball of fluff and saved her. Our rescue is full, and our fosters are swamped because it’s the holidays and it seems like so many dogs are losing their homes. But there’s always room for one more, especially one as needy as this little angel.”
The puppy was given the name Starla and is a merle pattern, Australian Shepherd. Sadly, when careless breeders allow two merles to breed, the result can be a double merle, which means the pups are blind, deaf, or both.
Starla is being treated for worms but she is parvo negative. She will be kept warm, happy, cared for, and loved.
