Police responded to a disturbance call in Pueblo, Colorado, where they arrived to find a man, wearing just his boxers, who allegedly threw a puppy at a woman’s car.
Amanda Belcher told police that the man approached their car, which had run out of gas, and threw the puppy toward her car. The pup bounced off the hood, squealed in pain, and went underneath a car, where he shook in fear.

“He was five feet in front of my car, then he threw [the dog] at my car,” Belcher said. “It hit the roof of my car, rolled down the windshield off the trunk and started running across the street.”
The man, 35-year old Edgar Zamora, admitted to being on methamphetamine for the first time and was apparently hallucinating. He was transported to the hospital and arrested on animal cruelty charges. He now faces a Class 1 Municipal Animal Abuse offense, punishable up to a year in jail and a $1000 fine.

Officer Keegan Verdugo was able to lure the puppy out from under the car by offering him some of his dinner.
Animal control then transported him to a local shelter, where he was examined by a veterinarian. Other than being in shock from the traumatizing event, the puppy is unharmed and doing great.

The puppy is around seven weeks old and thought to be a Lab mix.
While the shelter believes there’s a small chance of it happening, Zamora could potentially re-gain ownership of the puppy if he pays citations directed by the judge and proves he is capable of taking care of the dog.

The shelter’s main priority is keeping the puppy safe. Once his six-day stray hold is over, the puppy will be able to be adopted.
Since the story has aired on television and social media, many people have contacted the shelter to inquire about the puppy. Since the puppy is in high demand, the shelter may hold a special adoption lottery process.
