Friendly Dog Languishes For 7 Years At Shelter Because No One Wants Him

For seven long years, Scout the Labrador/Mastiff mix has called the Humane Society of the Delta his home. Imagine waiting for someone to adopt you and call you their own. For Scout, he’s never been given that opportunity, and the shelter hopes a kind person will allow Scout into their life.

Rather than let Scout languish any longer at the no-kill shelter, Andrea Denk of Russellville, Arkansas decided to foster him until he is permanently adopted. Denk admits she fell in love with Scout and can’t believe he’s yet to find a permanent home.

“He’s always been sweet and always been loving,” shared Rita Merritt with the Humane Society of the Delta. “When our foster took Scout home, she just couldn’t believe it because he transitioned so well, but he’s a sweetheart.”

Sadly, Scout isn’t the only dog who has lived at the shelter for many years. Some animals have been there even longer since they are a no-kill shelter. Merritt says that they need a spay and neuter clinic to help reduce the number of animals at the shelter.

“We have between 250 and 275 dogs,” Merritt stated. “We have over 50 cats. Mainly it’s because people won’t spay and neuter. We need a spay and neuter clinic so badly.”
