A family of 5 is thankful to their brave dog named Sammy for saving their lives from a catastrophic fire in their home in Savannah, Georgia. Sammy was the first one to sense the fire in the middle of the night. He started barking incessantly to alert his family who were fast asleep.
Thanks to Sammy, the family was able to run out to safety in time. Firefighters of Savannah Fire Rescue were dispatched to the blazing home after the family’s call. While the rescue team was able to contain the fire, they were unable to save the family’s 3 other pets, 2 cats and a second dog, who were trapped inside.
In a heart-wrenching photo released by the fire department, we see Sammy watching in terror as he watches his home burn down in front of his eyes. He is completely devastated as he realizes that his dog and cat siblings have perished in the fire.
Authorities believe that the fire was most likely caused by the family’s deep freezer. They have requested people to review the fire-safety mechanism of their homes and install well-functioning fire-alarms and smoke-detectors in strategic places.
