A three-year-old English Setter, named Soup, was out practising his quail-hunting skills in Montgomery, Alabama, with his dad, Michael Parker, when he got distracted by a scent and ran off into the woods.
Michael and his wife, Leigh, searched for him for days, but to no avail. They feared the worst and thought they’d never see their dog again.
Their worries grew further when they spotted a carcass in the woods being eaten by birds. At first glance, they thought the buzzards were feeding on a dead Soup, but luckily it was just a deer.

A guard at a prison just a mile away heard that the Parkers were searching for Soup and called them right away. It turns out that Soup had been at the prison the entire time. Soup’s name tag had fallen off before he arrived at the prison, so employees had no idea whose dog he was until they heard the Parker’s story.
Soup enjoyed being at Kilby Correctional Facility, where inmates were giving up their dinners to feed Soup. He was spoiled with roast beef, chicken tenders, steak and peach cobbler.

Not only did he eat like a king, but he also got to run around a big field outside, play basketball with the inmates and spend time with the K-9s who work there.
Soup was found lying by a state vehicle, scared and alone, by Charles Brooks, a plant maintenance supervisor at the prison.
Michael met up with Brooks to be reunited with his furry best friend. Michael sat down on the pavement and began crying as Soup jumped all over him.

“When I went to pick him up, he looked at me, then looked back at his friends, and looked at me. It looked like he was about to pull a quarter out of his pocket and flip it for whether he was going to stay or not,” Michael Said.
While Soup’s parents are happy and relieved to have him home, they said they’re going to take Soup back to the prison to visit his old friends and to give the warden a pecan pie as a ‘thank you’ for taking great care of their baby while he was lost.
