In this absolutely heartbreaking scene, a dog in a shelter shrinks back and cries in absolute terror when a human hand is extended out to pet him. It’s obvious from the dog’s starved frame and his tail tucked between his legs, that he has been abused and is fearful of human touch. But despite his panic and fear, there’s a glimmer of hope.
The dog turns around and leans into the animal rescuer’s touch, allowing her to gently caress his face.
Animal rescuer Monica Mitreanu posted the video of this puppy, who she met at the public shelter in Breasta-Craiova, Romania on November 11, 2015. Here is the original Facebook video below. Note: the following videos may take a few seconds to load.
People’s response after viewing the video has been an outpouring of concern and questions on the welfare of the dog.
JoAnne Sage-Smith who commented on the video wrote, “That’s how frightened they are there. From what I understand, the police are brutal to them, this baby…got a loving adopter, and I saw her her playing in a nice yard, with other dogs, so she is happy now!! (I’m pretty sure it’s the same puppy).”
According to Mitreanu’s own Facebook page, she pulled the dog from the public shelter and he’s now safe. This video was taken a few days after she took him with the caption, “scared puppy is ok now.”
It’s been around a month since the puppy’s rescue and Mitreanu shared another update on the dog. Mitreanu writes, “Little crying [boy] feel much better…” The dog is wearing a jacket to stay warm and calmly accepts her touch.

I’m so relieved this dog was saved. The baby’s crying was absolutely devastating. I’m glad he will be getting a bright future where he never needs to be afraid of human touch again!
