Foster Kitten Gives Adorable Smile for Photo, Goes Viral

THE INTERNET HAS FALLEN IN LOVE WITH BLOSSOM, THE SMILING CAT.

There’s no greater feeling than seeing an animal happy and knowing that you are the source of that happiness. A wagging tail can warm a pawrent’s heart like no other. But that heart-swelling sensation gets even bigger when the pet has a sad backstory and is filled with extra gratitude for your love and affection, as is the case with this viral photo of Blossom, the smiling kitten.

Photos of Blossom, which were recently posted on Facebook by biochemist and cat lover Lauren Boutz, have captured the internet’s heart.

Boutz fosters cats for the City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and her latest bundle of babies included Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Yes, they are named after the Powerpuff Girls, the beloved cartoon that ran from 1998 to 2005, and she adorably calls them her “Powerpurr Girls.”

On October 24th, Boutz put up a photo of Blossom looking especially pleased to be getting attention from her new humans. Look at that cat smiling! She is loved and she knows it.

Boutz put up a few more photos of Blossom that prove the five-week-old kitten already has a stage persona. Here she is looking bashful.

And here’s her “I’m feelin’ feisty” face.

Naturally, the photos went viral, receiving more than 72,000 likes and more than 217,000 shares in just one week. It was—as the kids say these days—cuteness overload.

“I love all cats (really, all animals in general) but this little baby is possibly the cutest furry thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” one Facebook user wrote. “I love her sweet little face.”

The photos soon made their way to Twitter, where they received a similar response. Blossom is almost too much for the human heart to physically handle.

Clearly, she was always meant to be a star.
