Traumatized Baby Had Nowhere To Turn So She Adopts A Dog

Walking our dogs can be quite the adventure but surely we never picture something like this happening! Sally and Jon Watkinson, the proud parents to two Puli dogs, had quite the fright after a routine walk.

Pulis are known for their dense, mop-like hair. Finding leaves, sticks and “natural” foreign objects is certainly common.

One morning, Sally took her two beloved Pulis for a nice walk to a friend’s house. When they were heading back, she saw something sticking out of Kato’s backside. At first glance, it appeared to be a leaf but then Sally did a double-take.

Kato had a hitchhiker that was in desperate need of help. A baby possum clung on tight! Her presence didn’t even bother Kato, who is a sweet-tempered, patient boy.

Possums ride on their moms’ backs until they’re old enough to climb off and be on their own. But this little one seemed to either be an orphan or she fell off her mom prematurely.

Sally, with her heart in her throat, called a local wildlife rescue group. She had no idea what to do. They told Sally not to try and take the baby possum off Kato. The less contact the better, plus the baby was on tight and removing her might hurt Kato. Sally explained that she couldn’t put Kato in the car with the baby on his butt because he would sit and squish her. This left Sally with only one option, they had to walk all the way to the rescue center.

When they arrived, the vet was all smiles. This had to be the cutest delivery she’d ever received. She carefully removed the baby possum and promised to care for her. Kato still didn’t seem fazed.

But this story isn’t over just yet!

Two days later, Kato, his brother, and mom took a walk back to Sally’s friend’s house. And you’ll never guess what happened AGAIN… another baby possum latched on to Kato! What are the odds?!

Kato was quite the little taxi as he delivered another baby to the wildlife center. Well, these two babies were obviously siblings. The next step would be to go back to the area and search for mom. If she’s not found then the babies will be raised together at the center and then released back into the wild.

Kato, you are such a patient boy!
