Vet Calls Wrong Family For Permission, Ends Up Euthanizing Wrong Dog “By Mistake”

Andrea Martinez and her family from Sunset, Utah, are completely shattered after losing their beloved dog, Ziggy, due to a vet’s careless mistake. Apparently, one of the vet staff at Davis County Animal Hospital got confused and called the wrong family for permission before putting Ziggy down.

Ziggy was previously admitted to the hospital following his breathing problems. He was slated for a surgery but the procedure was invasive and expensive. So the vet called up Ziggy’s “owners” from the record book and received directions to “lay the dog down” instead. The staff later freaked out when they realized that they had called the family of another dog named, also named “Ziggy”.

The hospital has been very apologetic since the incident. They have waived Ziggy’s bill, and gifted the mourning family an urn, plaque and a Christmas ornament to honor their sweet Dachshund’s memories. They are further trying to console the family by claiming that Ziggy might not have survived the “risky” surgery.

This whole incident has left Andrea sick in her guts. She feels robbed off the chance to save her beloved pooch. After much consideration, Andrea updated via a Facebook post that the family has decided not to press charges on the hospital or reveal the vet’s name, but they hope that no other owner goes through this tragedy again. Let’s spread the word and make it known that such carelessness is not okay.
