Cop Heads To The Shelter To Honor Fallen K-9 Partner

Loses are devastating, but they can lead to new, amazing beginnings. The Humphreys lost a loving family member and K-9 officer Eiko to cancer at 8 years old, and they decided to honour him in a loving and lasting way.

Eiko was a K-9 officer and partner to officer Shawn Humphreys at the Lawrenceville Police Department.

He was loved by all, and his passing left the department and community shaken.

One of those who took the loss hard was Kristin Sarkar of Releash Atlanta. She once met the Humphreys and their dog at a photoshoot and decided to help the family honor Eiko.

Kristin had recently come across a German Shepherd just like Eiko on the euthanasia list in Georgia. The dog had a leg injury, likely from a snake bite.

Kristin thought saving this dog’s life would be the best way to honor Eiko and brought it up to the family.

The Humphreys agreed and took him in! They named him E.J., short for Eiko Junior. ????

E.J. took to his new surroundings right away and even sat in the same place Eiko used to sit! The Humphreys would foster the pup until they eventually found their new K-9.

E.J. would get a forever home and family, and Eiko’s legacy would go on. What could be better than that? ????
