Man Causes Uproar By Registering Bees As His Emotional Support Animals

Arizona resident David Keller has created a buzz online. The Prescott Valley man believes things are out of hand regarding emotional support animals. Because he thinks it is way too easy for people to claim their pet is emotionally supporting them, he tried to register a swarm of bees for the same purpose.

He sees too many people faking the right to have an emotional support animal, including a so-called “service dog” he encountered recently. The dog was pulling his owner to the parking lot and Keller knew service animals do not behave that way. He decided to do something about it by trying to register bees as service animals.

“A lot of people thought it was hilarious and a lot of people were getting upset,” he said.

Keller registered a photo of a beehive as a service animal. Service dog trainer Jaymie Cardin says training is the way you can tell whether someone has a service animal or not.

According to federal law, dogs and miniature horses can be service animals but not bees. The whole point of Keller’s experiment was to call attention to fakers.

“The law is pretty clear that a service animal is an animal that is trained to perform a specific task related to the disability,” according to Sey In, of the Arizona Center for Disability Law.
